Rare oil-on-glass painting from the second half of the 18th century depicting a gallant scene in good condition.
The work has its original glass and the frame is contemporaneous.
In the 18th century, painting on glass was a technique that allowed the creation of refined works, especially in Piedmont, where documented biblical subjects include the 'San Paolo nutrito dal corvo' and the 'Baptism of Christ'. The difficulty of this technique lay in handling the brush on a surface as smooth as glass, different from canvas, and it required precision in execution.

Subjects: Among the most common subjects were religious and biblical themes, as in the case of the two Piedmontese paintings cited.
Examples: A specific 18th-century example, found in Palazzolo Acreide and dating to 1791, is the work "Miraculu in vitro".
Difficulty: The smooth and slippery surface of the glass made applying color more difficult than on canvas.
