Description from the seller
This is not a Solera wine: it is a 100% vintage 1902, an exceptionally rare, 124-year-old Rancio wine from the now-vanished vineyards once owned by the Monmany family. These vineyards no longer exist. Produced in extremely small quantities, this Vi Ranci Pur -Pure Dry Rancio Wine- was reserved for special occasions among the winemaker’s family and close friends.
Only limited historical information on this wine is available. It was vinified entirely from the 1902 vintage. The wine was produced from passerillé grapes harvested from old vines and fermented with native yeasts, with fermentation taking several years to complete. It was then left outdoors for an extended period in glass demijohns and very old barrels, exposed to marked seasonal temperature variations before being moved indoors to continue ageing in cellars with only passive temperature control. Bottled in the mid-1930s by "Institut Agrícola Català de Sant Isidre", Spain’s oldest agricultural association.
The barrels were not topped up and no sulfur was added, occasionally allowing a rare cask to develop flor. Over time, the wine became naturally concentrated through evaporation. Its acidity and alcohol levels initially declined before gradually rising again, helping the wine resist spoilage as it underwent a slow, controlled oxidative evolution.
Bottle stored in a private cellar until today, under excellent conditions. Please refer to the photographs for further details. Fully mature and showing beautifully at present, yet with the structure and balance to continue cellaring for several more decades.
*** All international parcels are shipped to the highest professional standards via premium UPS International Express, the courier’s fastest signature-required service.
