Description from the seller
THE OLD OLIVE TREE
95 x 70 cm
Acrylic on canvas · 2026
The Old Olive Tree presents a Mediterranean courtyard dominated by the presence of an ancient olive tree, whose canopy extends over the white architecture and the garden. An opening arch toward the sea introduces depth into the composition and connects the intimate space of the courtyard with the exterior landscape. The pots, the vegetation and the limewashed walls complete a scene built from simple shapes and defined chromatic contrasts.
The work combines intense greens, luminous whites, violets and blues with small warm accents. The dark, gnarled trunk of the olive tree functions as the visual center and contrasts with the clarity of the architecture and the sky. The visible brushwork in the vegetation adds texture and movement, while the architectural surfaces maintain a flatter and more geometric construction.
EXHIBITION AND VALUE OF THE WORK
The Old Olive Tree is part of a body of work in which Mar Legón explores the relationship between architecture, nature and the Mediterranean landscape. In this work, the olive tree takes on special prominence within the composition, while the arch and the presence of the sea visually expand the space and establish a continuity between interior and exterior.
This is a unique piece, made entirely by hand in 2026, that gathers some central features of the artist's recent production: the prominence of color, the simplification of forms, the construction of space through planes and the interest in transforming recognizable settings into painterly compositions with a strong visual identity.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mar Legón develops a painting practice focused on reinterpretation of landscapes, interiors, still lifes and figurative scenes through a visual language based on color, formal synthesis and the construction of atmospheres.
Her work transforms recognizable spaces and motifs into images of strong visual intensity, where reality is simplified and reorganized to give rise to scenes that oscillate between memory, imagination and contemplation.
