Romy van Rijckevorsel presents abstract kop, a 2010 original oil painting in abstract expressionism, hand-signed, measuring 140 by 75 cm, featuring black, white, blue, pink, yellow, green and multicolour tones, painted in the Netherlands and sold directly by the artist, rolled for safe shipment and requiring re-stretching by a local framer.
Description from the seller
Artist Statement
Romy van Rijckevorsel (Drunen, 1967) is a Dutch artist, living and working in Vlijmen since 2002. After a long period as a portrait painter she graduated in 2017 from the Academy for Fine Arts in Arendonk with a diploma in Painting. Since then she has worked as an independent artist. Her work is part of collections at home and abroad.
Romy van Rijckevorsel's oeuvre is infused with narrative: family history, memory and transmission form recurring themes, inspired by the oral storytelling tradition within her family. While her work was initially predominantly figurative, in recent years there has been a steady shift toward a more abstract visual language.
Characteristic of her approach is the absence of a predefined concept: each work arises intuitively, without a clearly defined end image. This open approach results in a visual language that is spontaneous, layered and sometimes deliberately unbridled — a conscious choice that benefits the directness and expressiveness of the work.
Ready to hang: no, the painting is carefully rolled up and packed and must be restretched by your local framer. The sending of (extra large formats) paintings rolled is safer and more environmentally friendly than sending ready-made works.
Due to the thick layer of oil paint the painting has characteristic cracks and craquelé!
