Description of the work
"An Expected Encounter" is integrated within the series «Cartografía de la interdependencia» and represents the latest pictorial research of the Valencian visual artist Jesús Poveda. In this work the artist proposes a critical revision of the avant-garde movements of the 20th century, articulated through a contemporary visual language of his own.

In this piece, what stands out is the harmonious coexistence of figurative elements, geometric patterns, and symbols reinterpreted from digital visual culture; a hybridization that places the image at a threshold suspended between memory, imagination, and the artist’s inner sensibility. The central human figure, deliberately stripped of identifiable traits, stands as a universal and open archetype. This timelessness invites the viewer to become an active agent, projecting onto the canvas their own dynamics of relationship, otherness, and belonging.

About the Artist
Jesús Poveda is a Spanish visual artist who lives and works from his studio in Valencia. After a solid career of more than fifteen years as a professional graphic designer, his university training sparked a deep interest in contemporary art and visual thinking. Around 2011 he began to materialize his first works and exhibition projects.

His artistic production sits at the exact intersection between analog and digital. Poveda articulates the painting practice by combining traditional methodologies and procedures of the craft with methodological processes derived from graphic design.
Currently, his research develops through pictorial series where the canvas is conceived from visual thinking. This approach endows his pieces with a symbolic, magnetic, and recognizable language, reclaiming the painter’s craft as an act of resistance and deceleration in the face of the digital overstimulation of contemporary life.

Since 2015, his work has been exhibited in various solo and group shows within culturally relevant spaces, with special focus on contexts related to contemporary art and sustainability. In recent years, his career has experienced notable consolidation and professionalization.
