Frame - Wood, Textile - Embroidery from 1887

This object is an antique nineteenth-century convent needlework, made with meticulous embroidery. In the center it features an image of the Madonna framed by an embroidered garland and floral motifs. The composition is enclosed in a period frame in dark wood and gilded, protected by glass. These pieces are often regarded as votive pictures or reliquaries, testimonies of popular religious devotion.

The frame bears the natural signs of aging and slight wear to the edges and to the gilding.
