Edward Hopper, born July 22, 1882 in Nyack, New York, and died May 15, 1967 in Greenwich Village (New York), is an American painter and printmaker.
Practicing his art mainly in New York, where he has his studio, he is considered one of the representatives of American realism, because he paints the daily life of the middle classes. At the beginning of his career, he depicts Parisian scenes before turning to American landscapes and becoming a keen observer of social changes in the United States. He produced many oils on canvas, but also worked in posters, etching (engraving), and watercolors.
A large portion of Hopper's oeuvre expresses, by contrast, the nostalgia of a bygone America, as well as the conflict between nature and the modern world. In a metaphysical ambiance, in a world that has become other, where human relationships are as if erased, his figures are most often solitary and melancholic.
Art book with excellent printing quality, hardcover with dust jacket, beautifully designed binding, sublime illustrations, condition very good!
A magnificent book, as artistic as those by Egon Schiele, David Hockney, Karel Appel or Hundertwasser, a magnificent edition!
