Description from the seller
Artist Statement
Romy van Rijckevorsel (Drunen, 1967) is a Dutch artist, living and working in Vlijmen since 2002. After a long period as a portrait painter, she graduated in 2017 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Arendonk with a diploma in Painting. Since then she has worked as an independent artist. Her work is part of collections both domestic and abroad.
Van Rijckevorsel's oeuvre is imbued with narrative: family history, memory and transmission are recurring themes, inspired by the oral storytelling tradition within her family. While her work initially tended to be figurative, in recent years there has been a steady shift toward a more abstract visual language.
Characteristic of her method is the absence of a predetermined concept: each work arises intuitively, without a clearly defined end result. This open approach yields a visual language that is spontaneous, layered and sometimes deliberately unbridled — a conscious choice that benefits the immediacy and expressive power of the work.
Ready to hang: no, the painting is carefully rolled up and wrapped and must be re-stretched by your local framer. Sending (very large formats) paintings rolled is safer and more environmentally friendly than sending ready-to-hang works.
