Antique Ottoman ceremonial textile from Türkiye, an embroidered panel in metallic thread and silk on a black ground, dating to the late 19th–early 20th century (c. 1880–1910), sized 125 by 125 cm and in good condition with signs of aging.
Description from the seller
Antique Ottoman / Levantine Ceremonial Embroidered Textile – Metallic Thread & Silk on Black Ground – Late 19th / Early 20th Century
Description
A richly hand-embroidered antique textile panel featuring elaborate floral and geometric ornamentation executed with metallic-wrapped threads on a black woven ground.
The composition displays a highly symmetrical design centered around a large medallion surrounded by repeating floral and vegetal motifs. The embroidery includes intricate couching work with gold- and silver-toned metallic threads, combined with delicate pink and pale silk details. Several sections reveal layered hand-applied metal thread embroidery typical of traditional Ottoman and Levantine ceremonial textiles from the late 19th to early 20th century.
The border is densely decorated with repeating cartouche and rosette motifs, while the central field contains elaborate radiating medallions and scrolling botanical ornamentation. The work shows clear evidence of entirely hand-executed craftsmanship, including irregular thread placement, aged metallic oxidation, and naturally worn silk fibers consistent with authentic antique production.
The black textile ground appears to be an older woven wool or heavy cotton fabric, carrying visible age, softness, and natural wear. The metallic embroidery threads display beautiful patina and tonal variation developed over time.
The reverse and detailed close-up photographs show the complexity of the hand stitching and the construction of the metallic wrapped threads.
Approximate dimensions:
125 × 125 cm
Condition:
Overall good antique condition considering age. Visible age-related wear, loose threads, oxidation/patina to metallic embroidery, small losses, thinning in areas, minor fabric wear, and irregularities consistent with authentic historical textiles. The photographs form an integral part of the description and condition report.
The item will be carefully packed and shipped securely.
