Description from the seller
Milk delivery box – Wood – Japan – Glico Milk advertising
Vintage Japanese wooden milk delivery box with a hinged lid, cream-painted surface and original red-and-blue Glico advertising graphics.
Description
This vintage wooden box appears to have been used for the household delivery and collection of bottled Glico milk. The front is decorated with the Japanese words "Glico" and "Milk", together with the company's distinctive Goal-in runner graphic.
One side bears the wording "Glico G Milk". The opposite side is marked "TEL" and "Retailer", with space originally intended for the local seller's telephone details. The raised backboard has several old holes, consistent with wall-mounted use.
The box is constructed from nailed wooden boards and has a hinged upper lid. The aged cream-coloured finish, faded lettering and weathered surface give it an authentic Japanese Showa-period advertising character. It can now be displayed as advertising memorabilia or used decoratively in a kitchen, café, shop or industrial-style interior.
Material:
Wood with ferrous metal nails and hinge. The specific wood species has not been confirmed.
Technique:
Nailed board construction with painted and printed advertising decoration.
Condition:
Fair vintage condition with extensive signs of age and outdoor use. The cream-coloured finish shows fading, discolouration, scratches, stains, paint loss and worn edges. The red and blue advertising graphics are faded and locally abraded.
The wood has visible splits, chips, small holes and open joints, particularly around the lower edges, corners and side boards. The lid shows wear, paint loss and some unevenness or warping, leaving a visible gap when closed. The hinge and nails show considerable oxidation. The interior and rear panel are darkened and stained, with areas of old paint or residue.
The lid is shown in both open and closed positions in the photographs, but its strength and suitability for regular use have not been tested.
Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description.
