Grand Art Deco glazed earthenware ball vase, fine pâte by Villeroy & Boch – Mettlach, model 4133, from the prestigious Saar period (1920-1935). This singular period in the history of the manufacture corresponds to the administration of the Saar Territory by the League of Nations following the Treaty of Versailles. Productions bore the inscription “Made in Sarre,” now particularly appreciated by antique ceramics enthusiasts as it allows precise dating of pieces from this era. This large vase perfectly illustrates the sober, refined elegance of Villeroy & Boch’s creations in the early 1930s.

The vase features a generous spherical form resting on a light circular foot, highlighted by a cream glaze with subtle satin reflections that give the surface a great visual softness. Its broad shoulder rises to a short neck whose edge is delicately emphasized by a fine gold trim, echoed at the base to harmoniously frame the silhouette. The whole is in excellent condition. The glaze is perfectly preserved and retains its original luster. The two gold lines, at the neck and base, are remarkably well preserved with very limited wear. One slight blue-marked anchor-shaped mark on one face is noted, now partially faded but still discreetly visible. This peculiarity does not affect the aesthetic quality or the overall presentation of the piece.
