Maurizio Galimberti (Como, 1956) is an Italian photographer of international fame. A photography enthusiast from a young age, Galimberti began working with classic analogue black-and-white film, replaced in 1983 by the more versatile instant camera that would become his stylistic signature.
Galimberti develops a personal technique based on the juxtaposition of multiple instant photos, giving rise to true photographic mosaics in which the influence of great masters such as Umberto Boccioni and Marcel Duchamp is easy to recognize. In his compositions the subject is deconstructed and reassembled in a three-dimensional key, following a mathematical and rigorous process that recalls the harmony of a musical composition.
At the center of his mosaics appear both famous works of art, such as the Vittoria Alata of Brescia, Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper, and the Cappellone of San Nicola in Tolentino (Macerata), and figures from the world of entertainment, including Johnny Depp, Lady Gaga, George Clooney, Monica Bellucci, and Robert De Niro.
