Labelled Johann Liebl - - Violin - Germany

Johann Liebl (1770 – 1841) created a Mittenwald style instrument using quality materials and a hard yellow varnish in 1823. He was a violin maker in Griesbach and a violin and zither maker from Rottal , belonging to the instrument-making family of the same name .
This is a superb, circa 1880, a faithful master copy of Johann Liebl’s original violin and is one of the best examples, bearing no dents, hair-line cracks, or, surface marks, and with a rich and mellow sound.
Liebl lived and studied in Augsburg and Mittenwald, while his violins were reportedly said to have a distinctly "Mittenwald" appearance. He was equally skilled at making his own unique violins, repairing and constructing new ones when they were brought to him where he worked as a ‘string merchant’.
The church in Kößlarn (a market-town in Lower Bavaria) engaged him as a ‘restorer’ of their instruments, supplying the church musicians in 1829 with violin bows and 91 bundles of strings . By this time he had already gained a good reputation among his contemporaries for his work with stringed instruments.
After moving to Griesbach , Johann felt so much at home that he refused to take over a workshop in Passau (a university town in Bavaria) and passed away there on February 28,1841.

Body Length – 14 3/16 inches (361 mm).
Overall Length – 23 inches. (584mm).
Bouts – 1½ inches (38mm).
Tailpiece inlaid with mother-of-pearl - with 4 inbuilt Fine Tuners Along with two Brazilian Bows (one in VG condition) in a solid case with latches.
Fully Strung with Dominant strings.
There is a chin rest with sound-post installed, bridge adjusted and fully tested by a Luthier. The violin has no cracks, dents, or, age-related marks, and is in great condition.
