VOLTA - "Song for the Moon"

A figure dissolves into the darkness of the vegetation, flute to the lips, facing a moon that seems to respond with the same quiet with which it was summoned. The green becomes nocturnal, dense, pierced by petals falling like notes suspended in the still air. At its feet the water holds the lotus flowers and a pink heron, still, as if he too were listening. The vines wind around the grass with the memory of an ancient gesture, but here there is no magic to be exercised, only a call that dissolves into the night. The color settles into emerald and cobalt tones, while the figure, reduced to pure shadow, becomes part of the landscape that observes it.

But the gesture with which this heritage is traversed is unequivocally contemporary. Color does not illustrate; it breathes. The brushstroke does not describe; it vibrates. What remains of the past is the deep structure—a certain idea of the body, of space, of light—while the surface is fully present, fully alive. Volta does not quote, it restitutes: his compositions seem to emerge from a shared cultural memory, brought to light with different eyes.
