Limited Edition Franklin Mint alidade theodolite telescope, made in 1991, crafted in lacquered brass with glass lenses and mounted on a wooden pedestal base, measuring 19.5 cm long and 18 cm high with a weight of 1040 g.
Description from the seller
For sale is a Limited Edition collectable Franklin Mint Telescope on a wooden pedestal base.
It was made as a Limited Edition in 1991 as part of the Franklin Mint collections official issue of the 'National Maritime Historical Society' to commemorate the 500th anniversary year in 1992 of America's Discovery by Christopher Columbus in 1492. The "Telescope" was made along with other maritime instruments as part of a limited edition collection. The 'National Maritime Historical Society' was founded in the USA in 1963.
It is precision crafted from solid brass. The design was inspired by maritime instruments like the alidade theodolite.
It is in Excellent condition, showing minor signs of age /use: there are only very faint surface scratches/ marks to a few parts of the metal surface. The wooden pedestal base does not have any damage or large signs of wear /age/ use but it does have a noticeable central join left over after manufacture and some small marks to one corner.
The lenses have been cleaned, there is no fungus, haze or bloom inside or on them and there is no damage to them. Please see photos for these condition details.
The glass lenses are in a 'spyglass' arrangement of 2 lenses: an objective 2cm ( 0.81 inch) diameter and an eyepiece. The eyepiece does focus by a screw thread, only focusing on closer views. The magnification it provides is low.
The geared teeth of the rack and pinion's rise and fall mechanism are not engaging together, this is by design not from wear as they are unworn. It is a working/ functioning ornament but is primarily for display/ a collectors piece.
The telescope barrel length: 19.5cm ( 7.65 inches). The height (when the telescope is positioned horizontally and including wooden base) 18cm ( 7 inches). The wooden Base dimensions are: 14 X 14 cm ( 5.5 x 5.5 inches).
Total Item weight: 1040g.
Postage is by Royal Mail Tracked (this will be delivered by the destination's national postal service) or by UPS Tracked delivery service. Please message me with any packaging &/ or delivery service preferences after the sale.
