Massimiliano Mandas (Cagliari, Sardinia) is a visual artist whose research develops between painting, drawing and writing. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts, for years he has combined artistic activity with experience in the theatre world, a path that has sharpened his sensitivity to stage, light, narrative rhythm and image construction.

His exhibition activity extends from Sardinia to the international context, with exhibitions that have also reached Cannes, outlining a path in constant evolution and an increasingly recognizable research.

Mandas’ work arises from the observation of what usually remains on the margins of the gaze: insects, reptiles, fish, ancestral symbols and archetypal figures become tools to reflect on the human condition. Far from naturalistic representation, these subjects assume an almost sacred dimension, transforming into metaphors of resilience, time and memory. As also emerges from the project L’Eredità del Minimo, the artist restores dignity to the detail and invites the observer to recognize value in the ordinary, where life continues to manifest with silent intensity.

His painting is characterized by meticulous technique, built through a dense weave of signs and dots that generates vibrant and deep surfaces. Alongside this formal research runs an articulated symbolic language, in which circles, triangles, numbers and references to Nuragic and Mediterranean culture dialogue with existential reflection. Works such as those dedicated to the Mother Goddess transform Sardinian archaeological heritage into a contemporary narrative, capable of speaking about identity, spirituality and belonging.

Mandas’ artistic production is also traversed by a strong literary component. Poetic texts and reflections accompany the works, broadening their meaning and building a coherent narrative universe, in which image and word complement each other. Each work thus becomes a stage of an inner journey that invites the audience not only to observe, but to linger, question themselves and recognize themselves.
