His passion for painting and drawing is evident from adolescence, as is the need to represent on paper all his experiences. Participation in the war, for example, is a recurring theme in his works; art is almost a liberating cure, a unique means through which to free oneself from worries.
The first solo exhibition dates to 1924, when Guida exhibited at the Bottega D’Arte in Livorno with “Cenacolo degli Illusi.” The exhibition was followed by an initial period of successes, which unfortunately would be interrupted in the 1930s and 1940s due to the artist’s psychological problems.
Guido Guidi returned to exhibiting only in 1955, thanks to the exhibition for the Rassegna di Arte Popolare in Rome. Subsequent solo shows followed, characterized by great success and strong public attendance.
In the seventies he also exhibited outside Italy, as demonstrated by his participation in the Biennale di Arte Contemporanea Europea in Athens in 1972. He travels between Livorno, where he keeps returning for work and family reasons, and the rest of Europe, establishing himself as one of the most recognized painters of the twentieth century.
He passed away in 1998, and his art was immediately celebrated through a long series of anthological exhibitions dedicated to his most interesting paintings.
