Description from the seller
GIOVERDI (pseudonym of Mario Verdini, 1960), born in the south of Apulia, develops a pictorial exploration centered on the dialogue between historical memory and contemporary sensibility, investigating the relationship between time, space and perception. His academic training, deepened through the study of Byzantine art and ancient painting techniques—from encaustic to egg tempera—finds its expressive culmination in oil painting. The result is a personal language, essential and highly evocative, in which tradition renews itself through a contemporary vision. Dreamlike cities and lagoons are the recurring themes of his painting: suspended landscapes, devoid of human presence, where space becomes a place of memory, of silence and of contemplation. The absence of the figure does not represent a subtraction, but a poetic choice that amplifies the narrative dimension and invites the viewer to an inner experience, suspended between reality and vision. In GIOVERDI’s works the painting material preserves traces of time and transforms memory into image. His works have been exhibited in exhibitions and competitions dedicated to sacred and contemporary art and are part of private collections and religious institutions in Italy, Europe and the United States.
The work “Laguna” (oil on canvas 80x80), sits between poetic realism and a contemporary metaphysical sensibility, without indulging in quotation, but building a personal language founded on the essentiality of form and the intensity of color. The three boats seem almost suspended more than floating, as if held in a weightless space. Even the pier, visible only in a corner, does not function as a landing but as a simple compositional reference: it suggests the presence of man without showing him. It is precisely this subtraction that makes the painting evocative and coherent with a research that favors silence, memory and waiting over narrative. The work reveals a pursuit that, through a contemporary language made of clear fields, chromatic harmonies and rigorous spatial construction, conveys meaning. Light does not describe, but reveals; space does not welcome action, but contemplation. From it emerges a landscape of the soul, where every element seems to harbor a silent memory and invite the viewer to an intimate dialogue with time. THE PAINTING IS SHIPPED ON UNFRAMED CANVAS PROTECTED BY A RIGID TUBE.
