About Hans Kinkel
The German collector and photographer Hans Kinkel left behind one of the most significant private art estates dedicated to German modernism and Expressionist art of the 20th century. His collection encompassed works by major artists from Classical Modernism to postwar art and linked photography, visual arts, and art-historical documents in a uniquely integrated way. Together with Klapheck he issued the Catalogue raisonné of print graphics from 1977 to 1980. After his death, a substantial portion of the estate was presented in the exhibition “From Kirchner to Baselitz – A Century’s Heritage: The Hans Kinkel Collection” at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum. The exhibition made the extraordinary quality and art-historical relevance of the collection accessible to a broad audience and established Hans Kinkel’s estate as an important testament to German art and cultural history.
