AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Massive carved wooden Bible box/cessapanca with supports – likely Indian manufacture – 20th century

Description
Interesting decorative chest/cessapanca in dark solid wood, characterized by rich carving work and accompanied by a pair of separate wooden supports, also carved.
The front features a symmetrical composition dominated by two stylized birds facing each other, depicted with long beaks and geometrically adorned bodies. In the center there is an elaborate geometric motif, while small rosettes and ornamental bands complete the composition. The decoration continues on the sides and the lid, where a large circular floral medallion is carved.
Particularly interesting is the ornamental frame of the front, created through a sequence of geometric and vegetal motifs incised directly into the wood. The two removable supports also echo the chest’s decorative language, with carved ends.
The interior consists of a single large compartment. The lid is connected to the structure by two metal hinges.
By construction characteristics, wood type and ornamental repertoire, the object is consistent with a probable manufacture from the Indian subcontinent, plausibly from the first half/mid 20th century. The geographical attribution and dating are proposed on stylistic and construction grounds, in the absence of origin documentation.
A decorative object of notable size, usable as a small storage chest, container, or decorative element.
