Description from the seller
Item Description
This is a Japanese cast bronze incense burner (koro), featuring a rounded, bulbous body finished in a naturally aged verdigris-green patina, paired with a gilt bronze lid. The domed cover is openwork pierced in a stylised fan or shell motif, radiating outward from a central pinecone-shaped finial, allowing incense smoke to escape while providing an elegant decorative accent. The contrast between the softly weathered green body and the warm golden tone of the lid gives the piece a striking visual presence.
The underside of the base bears an impressed seal mark, indicating that the piece is signed by its maker. The accompanying wooden storage box (tomobako) is inscribed with the title "松鶴" (Shōkaku), suggesting this as the artist's or workshop's name associated with the piece.
The burner is offered together with its original wooden storage box.
Size
Height: 13.5 cm
Width: 13 cm
Depth: 13 cm
Weight
806 g
Condition
The bronze body retains an attractive natural patina consistent with age, with light wear, small surface losses, and minor marks visible around the base area, as shown in the photographs. The gilt lid shows some rubbing to the high points typical of handling over time. The original tomobako shows some staining but remains structurally intact.
