Authentic Indonesian keris board (blawong) made of teak, in good condition, measuring 62 × 29 × 2 cm, weighing 1.5 kg, originating from Java, and sold without a stand.
Description from the seller
A special Kris-/keris board, also known as Kris-/keris holder or blawong. It is an authentic item from Java, Indonesia. This piece is old and a bit worn from use. There are holes with the cord where the keris used to sit.
A keris board is usually adorned with a ‘wayang kulit’ (shadow puppet) and floral motifs. Traditionally the keris is hung on the keris board when not worn. The keris board hangs on the wall of the Krobongan, the sacred room at the back of a traditional Javanese house. It is said that the power of the keris is most active when it is placed vertically and therefore is hung high for protective purposes. Dimensions: 62x29x2 cm
Although this piece shows signs of use, it features a fantastically rich decoration. The honey-colored patina and the traces of old paint indicate its considerable age, and when combined with the elegant design, it makes for an ethnographic object of great importance.
