Photography book by the great Sebastião Salgado, for this edition selecting a very precise series of photographs of Exodus Children, here photographed in portrait format. Black-and-white photographs, bearing no text but testifying through the image and the gaze, a very captivating book, particularly beautiful, in the first original edition, 2000, in very good condition. Unique and retrospective copy, large format, bound, under dust jacket, absolutely complete and in very good condition! Excellent printing and reproduction quality of the photographs. Very photogenic.
Beautiful book, as photogenic as those by Koudelka, Peress, Henri Cartier-Bresson or Raymond Depardon, with a touch of unique and singular originality, proper to Salgado!
Some descriptive elements:
" They wear a torn sweater, a floral dress, an earring, nose discharge, sometimes a missing hand. Yet you only see their gaze. In which one senses furious and sad stories. Sebastião Salgado has picked the portraits of these Exodus children. A book dedicated " To all the children who, by looking at these photographs, will be led to reflect on the hidden existences behind these faces. " Born in Brazil in 1944, Sebastião Salgado is trained as an economist. He practiced this profession for several years before starting in Paris a career as a photographer. He then successively worked with agencies Sygma, Gamma and, in 1979, with Magnum. In 1994, he created, with Lélia Wanick Salgado, Amazonas Images, devoted exclusively to his work. Very sensitive to human and social problems, Salgado designs each of his reports as long and deep investigations into the reality of his time. After notably photographing man at work in the basic production sector around the world (La Main de l'Homme - 1993, published in 7 languages) or denouncing the tragedy of Brazilian peasants “without land” (Terra - 1997), he now, after six years of reporting, offers a striking portrait of population movements around the world. Rootlessness, exile and wandering run through this moving inquiry that questions the fundamental link that man forms with his territory. With Exodes and The Children of Exode, Salgado again proves the extreme acuteness of his photographic commitment."
One-of-a-kind, retrospective and magnificent, timeless!
