Description from the seller
A Javanese keris with a straight blade (dapur lurus), featuring an elaborately crafted silver pendok and a hardwood hulu (hilt).
The blade is forged from iron/steel and shows traces of pamor (damascus pattern). The blade is straight and intact, with age-related patina and light surface corrosion.
The pendok (silver scabbard fitting) on the front displays fine repoussé work with exuberant floral scrollwork and pomegranate motifs, characteristic of the Central Javanese tradition (Surakarta/Yogyakarta style). The reverse side shows a different decorative program with bamboo and palm leaf motifs arranged in diagonal panels. Small dents and wear on the back.
The hardwood grip is carved in a figurative form and is in good condition with a warm patina. The mendak (collar ring) appears partly gilded.
Dimensions: total length estimated at about 45–50 cm (exact measurements to be verified with the purchaser on receipt).
Origin: Dutch estate, Utrecht region.
Period: probably 19th century.
Condition: fair — wear and patina appropriate to age.
