Gold-plated metal miniature purse, made in the Netherlands, dating from 1900 to the 1950s, 9.5 cm high and 10 cm wide, in good used condition.
Description from the seller
ANTIQUE & VINTAGE PURSES (11) 1900 - 1950's
Various materials: Metal-chain-mesh, beaded fabric, velvet.
The collection consists of ten assorted miniature purses decorated with glass beads on fabric, metal chain mesh, velvet with bead decoration and hand-embroidered flower design. Similar small purses were made at the end of the 19th century and early in the 20th century to contain a few small coins, often added to a chatelaine. Smaller purses could also be used to hang on the belt of a large folk-costume doll, these would be tiny, approx. 5/6cm. high. The longest in this collection is a pink beaded purse of 9,5 cm. high and the smallest a velvet example only 6cm. high and 5cm. wide.
All measurements exclusive chains.
Two chain-mesh purses date from early in the 20th century, one gold and one silver colour. The silver coloured purse has a beautiful lacy edge made of metal crochet work. Very fine work. A quality silver-plated chain-mesh purse had originally two "diamonds" in the clasp, one is now missing, the remaining "diamond" can be seen on the photo).
A number of the vintage purses from around 1950 are made of coloured beads on fabric. These small purses were often called "Church Purses" as they were used for a church visit containing a few coins for the collection plate.
The collection is in very good condition. It will be a varied and colourful addition to an antique or vintage collection..
Quick and careful packaging will ensure a safe delivery. See my feedback on Catawiki.
