Shallow, flared bowl with a brown rim, decorated on the exterior with two sinuous dragons evolving among stylized clouds and flames in enamels of green, yellow, iron red and aubergine.
The interior features, on a crackled ground, the Taoist Eight Immortals (Ba Xian) arranged in a circle around Budai, the laughing monk, seated at the center before a stylized landscape. Each Immortal is depicted holding his distinctive attribute, flute, fan, basket of flowers, or gourd, in a lively and colorful composition.
This type of porcelain, produced in the Nanking kilns at the end of the Qing Dynasty, is characterized by its crackled enamel, black-enhanced outlines, and bright translucent enamels, reflecting a popular production influenced by the wucai (famille verte) patterns of the Kangxi period.
