This work by Alfredo Grimaldi, measuring 50x70 cm, transports the viewer directly to an idyllic Italian coastal landscape. The composition is structured on multiple planes, creating depth and inviting the eye to explore the scene.
In the foreground, on the left, the scene is framed by a portico with partially visible columns, wrapped in a lush cascade of climbing flowers, among which purple and fuchsia bougainvillea stand out, and red geraniums. At the foot of the columns and along the terrace parapet are several terracotta amphorae and vases filled with colorful geraniums and other flowering plants. The terrace floor is rendered with brushstrokes that suggest stone and the reflections of light.
Beyond the terrace, a circular bay with waters of intense cobalt blue extends, dotted with small white sails gliding gently. Along the coast a picturesque village climbs with houses featuring red-tiled roofs and pastel facades (creamy, pink, yellow), cascading down toward the sea. Beyond the village, imposing mountains in bluish and purplish hues rise on the horizon, blending into a bright blue sky, studded with soft clouds in pinkish and violet tones.
Grimaldi’s impressionist technique, characterized by textural, broad, and vibrant brushstrokes, gives the work vitality and movement, capturing the sunlight and the luminous atmosphere of the Mediterranean. The generous use of color and the palpable texture of the paint invite a sensory perception that transcends mere sight. The artist’s signature is clearly visible in the lower right corner. The work is presented without a frame, highlighting the edge of the painted canvas.
