All of Jacob Cats's works, 1655, in the rare FIRST edition.
One of the most classical and rare Dutch emblem books!
In good condition. Size: 36 x 25 cm.
Amsterdam, Ian Iacobsz. Schipper, 1655 - Collation: (18), 152, (20), 30, (4), 20, 195, (9), 32, (8), 184, (16), 267, (5), (10), 184, 84, 60, 24, (6), (8), 36, 160 pp. - 38 x 24 cm.
Very fine leather binding with new endpapers (19th century). The contents show light signs of use (sometimes slightly foxed) and some spots. A small number of pages have some tears or missing pieces (sometimes repaired or supplied).
The engraved title page with the image of Jacob Cats is partially reinforced; the print "Transit Gloria Mundi" is rather narrowly cropped.
Contains more than 350 engravings and emblems, including two portraits of Cats (one of which is the engraved title page of part 1). Also a portrait of Anna Maria van Schuurman and the famous "Huwelijksfuik".
