Oil by Jean Claude Quilici. 'Les Roches Blanches aux Baux'.
Jean-Claude Quilici was born in Marseille in 1941. He studied at the École des beaux-arts, where he discovered the masters of Provençal painting. His painting is here part of the aesthetic line of Provençal artists. However, Jean-Claude Quilici does not depict Provence alone, but all the landscapes he admires and that inspire him, as his travels unfold: the United States, Spain, Morocco…
Jean-Claude Quilici had his first exhibition in 1958. This was followed by national-level renown. The artist received numerous awards, such as the 'special mention' from the Jury at the Grand Prix de Peinture of the Festival d'Avignon. The recognition he enjoyed then crossed borders: he exhibited many times in the United States and then in Japan. During his career, he also undertook public commissions, notably for the University of Corte and the Marseille metro. In 1997, the artist created the set designs for Gounod's opera Mireille for a coproduction of the Opéra de Marseille and the Opéra de Bordeaux.
