Description from the seller

Rare first absolute edition of the two-volume work by Edmondo De Amicis titled "Gli amici" and published by the Milanese publishing house Fratelli Treves.

Edmondo Mario Alberto De Amicis (Oneglia, 1846 – Bordighera, 1908) was a prolific Italian writer, journalist and military officer, author of dozens of works including "Cuore", one of the most popular books in world children’s literature. The work we present here, published three years before his masterpiece, is not a traditional novel, but a discursive form work — a mix of narrative essay, anecdotes, sketches and psychological digressions — aimed at analyzing, describing and portraying the moral, social and sentimental value of friendship.

Author: Edmondo De Amicis.
Work: Gli amici (volume one and two, complete work).
Publisher: Fratelli Treves, Editors.
Year: 1883.
Edition: first edition, first printing (the date 1883 is indicated and there are no indications of second printings or reissues).
Details on binding and copy: contemporary half-leather binding. Boards covered with marbled paper in purple tones. Spines with light leather dappings for the titles.
Pages: 332 (2) + 314 (2).
Size: 18.5 x 12.5 cm.

External condition: binding solid, structurally very good. The boards retain good coloration, despite some scratches and fading. Noted: natural fading of the titles printed in gold on the spine. Slight and normal signs of age to the crowns, corners and margins. On the back, above the titles, a adhesive patch had been applied which has left a clear mark and traces of glue.
Internal condition: copy very fresh and clean. Interiors free of any ownership marks, glosses, inscriptions or library stamps from extinct libraries. The pages show a physiological and uniform browning consistent with time, entirely homogeneous with a few very light foxing occasional. At the frontispieces there are small and light pencil marks. Complete work in two volumes, not common to find in this combination of freshness and in first printing.

------------------------------------

The photographs are an important and integral part of the description, so please view them carefully before placing bids. And keep in mind that, although they were taken carefully with natural light, it may happen that the actual item differs slightly in color due to lighting conditions in the environment or monitor settings.

Important: for purchases outside the European Union, customs duties, taxes and other possible charges are not included in the product price or shipping cost, and are therefore exclusively borne by the buyer.

About shipping: shipment only via certified and traceable couriers. I am not responsible for any delays, disruptions or losses caused solely by carriers, external events, or customs blocks. In case of problems during transit, I will still offer, within my possibilities, maximum support to file complaints and monitor the shipment with the courier.
