Description from the seller
Main Details
Artist: Jean-Pierre JUNGO (1920-2008)
Title: Arlequin
Year: 1974
Medium: Oil on panel
Signature: Signed and dated "JUNGO 74" at the bottom right.
Dimensions of the artwork: 30 x 20 cm
Dimensions with frame: 46 x 36 cm
Description of the Work
A vibrant piece with great visual impact that depicts the iconic figure of Harlequin, captured in a moment of intimacy while playing the guitar. In this painting, the artist adopts a fragmentation of clearly cubist origin: the figure and the surrounding space are constructed through sharp, angular geometries.
The color palette is bright, dominated by strong contrasts between warm tones of red and ochre yellow and the cool blocks of deep blue. Harlequin’s mask, reduced to its essential and synthetic features, blends harmoniously with the structured background, creating a dynamic visual rhythm that almost conveys the musical tempo of the scene. The brushwork is decisive and the painterly matter well distributed, emphasizing the solidity of the compositional arrangement.
Inscriptions and Provenance
On the back of the work there is the autograph inscription with the title "Arlequin", the initials "4 P." and the pencil note of the measurements (both of the artwork and the full footprint).
The frame, if visible in the photo, is included in the lot as a pure gift from me and is not part of the sale; it does not determine its value and, due to its delicacy, is not insured. Consequently, any defects already present on the frame are not reported and any damage to it during transport will not be considered for claims or returns.
Notes on Shipping and Customs
The item will be shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to European Union countries may be slightly longer than usual due to standard customs clearance procedures.
I would also remind you that, since Switzerland lies outside the EU customs area, import taxes, local VAT and customs duties are entirely the buyer’s responsibility and will be charged by the authorities of your country upon delivery. I advise informing yourself in advance to avoid surprises. Alternatively to shipping, if possible, personal pickup in Geneva is always the option I prefer and strongly recommend, as it eliminates shipping costs and ensures maximum safety for the work. If shipping is chosen, I will do my best to package it to protect the painting during transit.
