Very heavy for its size
This sculpture depicts Ganesha, the elephant-headed god, patron of wisdom, beginnings and prosperity, seated in a relaxed yet majestic posture. The deity is represented with several arms, holding his attributes, while the trunk flexibly extends forward. The modeling of the body, deliberately ample and rhythmically defined by a rounded belly, accords with the traditional iconography of the god. At the base appears the little rat, his vahana Mushika, rendered in a lively and familiar manner.
The whole is distinguished by a decorative casting with a strong presence, highlighted by a simple but effective treatment of the ornaments, jewelry and attributes. The compact and balanced composition rests on a lotus-form base with a sober design, reinforcing the devotional character of the image. The surface displays a very beautiful nuanced brown patina, enriched in places by light deposits of green oxidation, particularly visible at the base and in some hollows.
Condition: good old surface wear with slight rubbing. Overall well preserved.
