Description
A large Persian engraved steel decorative shield dating to the 20th century, richly hand-engraved with elaborate courtly, hunting, floral, and animal scenes inspired by traditional Persian artistic themes.
Handcrafted from steel, the shield features four prominent domed bosses surrounding a finely engraved central medallion depicting an elegantly dressed couple within a richly ornamented floral setting. Radiating from the centre are five engraved cartouches portraying mounted horsemen, courtly figures, animals, birds, and stylised floral compositions, all executed with remarkable decorative detail.
The broad scalloped rim is finely engraved with scrolling foliate ornamentation, while the reverse retains the traditional riveted construction securing the four bosses. A metal suspension loop is fitted to the reverse, allowing the shield to be displayed as an impressive wall decoration.
