Osvaldo Provvidone (1920 – 2013) Italian painter. Born in Novara, he was a visual artist capable of standing out in the Italian contemporary art scene through a continuous and passionate stylistic research. His formation has roots in the fervent postwar era: he studied at the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Turin, guided by two masters of the calibre of Felice Casorati and Enrico Paolucci, choosing the latter as his direct guide. After teaching in Turin at the State Institute of Figure Drawing and Fashion (then directed by Italo Cremona) and, later, in high schools and technical institutes of his Novara, Provvidone fully embraced the activity of exhibitions. Since the 1960s he began collecting significant recognitions, among which the victory of the second prize for tempera at the First Roman Biennale of Contemporary Art in 1967 stands out.

From a poetic and technical point of view, starting from the 1950s Provvidone’s art underwent a decisive turn: the artist moved away from figurative rigor to a utopian exploration of abstract spatiality.
