In Umbral, the pictorial surface splits into two territories that face each other without touching. On the left, a mass of color—magenta, burnt red, residual yellows—seems to press its way through the matter. On the right, a dense, vertical darkness, lined with drips and marks, imposes its silence.
The work does not describe a concrete place. Instead, it works with the tension between what still retains light and what has already been absorbed by shadow. The result is an image of strong emotional presence: introspective, restrained, and deeply nocturnal.
