Refined Byzantine icon depicting “Η Άμπελος” (The True Vine Christ), one of the most meaningful yet uncommon representations in Eastern Christian iconography, inspired by the Gospel of John ("I am the vine, you are the branches"). Christ is shown at the center of the vine, surrounded by the twelve Apostles, in a composition of great symbolic balance and strong visual impact.
The work is a faithful reproduction according to the rigorous Byzantine tradition of the Cretan School (Theophanis), produced at Mount Athos by Father Pefkis, hagiographer and graduate of the Athonite Ecclesiastical Academy.
An element of particular interest is the artist’s signature "ΠΕΥΚΗΣ (Pefkis)", painted on the front of the icon, located in the lower right and repeated on the original wax seal affixed to the back.
The icon also preserves the original certificate of authenticity, attesting to its creation according to the traditional techniques of Mount Athos: authentic pigments, gold leaf, canvas applied to antiqued wood, and workmanship in accordance with the most rigorous Byzantine iconographic tradition.
