Description from the seller
Antoine Stevens (1987)
Amara
2025
Original unique work created in acrylic on canvas.
Born in 1987 in the north of France, Antoine Stevens discovered graffiti in his teens before developing a studio painting practice from 2005. His work sits at the crossroads of street art and contemporary figurative portraiture. Through faces filled with serenity, he explores the themes of identity, femininity and emotion, combining a mastered painting technique with textures and drips characteristic of his universe. His work is today presented in several galleries in France and internationally.
With Amara, Antoine Stevens delivers a portrait of great emotional intensity. Closed eyes and the head slightly raised evoke a moment of contemplation and calm. The wide gold jewelry, subtle graphic marks crossing the face and the long paint drips create a striking contrast between strength and delicacy.
The dark background highlights the finesse of the work on the tones of the skin, while the hair, treated in a free and energetic gesture, adds an almost abstract dimension to the composition. This duality between precision of the portrait and spontaneity of the gesture is one of Antoine Stevens' most recognizable signatures.
