Two vintage copper and pewter candlesticks in the Old Sheffield Plate style, dating from around 1930–1940, made in the United Kingdom, with a height of 31 cm and a width and depth of 16 cm, in good used condition with minor signs of age and stains.
Description from the seller
Two antique candle holders in hammered copper and pewter, a widely used artisanal combination in Western Europe, especially in a British-influenced area around the late nineteenth to early twentieth century (1880-1920). The material combination is often defined as Old Sheffield Plate, with Georgian-Victorian inspiration.
The decorative details are typical of Rococo or Victorian style, making them an antique decorative piece.
The pieces feature a bi-chromatic and bi-material construction, where the smooth shaft highlights the warmth of copper, while the oval-shaped base and the central decorative bosses are wrought in pewter, in relief work with floral-vegetal motifs of eclectic and neobaroque inspiration.
Dimensions
Height 31 cm x Width 16 cm.
