Two heavy Dutch steel document and cash boxes from ca. 1920–1930, each 30 × 22 × 11 cm and together about 8.14 kg, with one engine-turned exterior and one forest-green enamel exterior, red interiors, and working lock mechanisms (Box 1 with a key, Box 2 with a key ring).
Description from the seller
An attractive set of two heavy, matching European sheet steel document and cash boxes (geldkisten / kassetten), weighing over 8.1 kg combined. Featuring identical dimensions and classic 1930s heavy steel construction, this pair offers two distinct exterior finishes:
1. Box 1 (Engine-Turned / Industrial Patina): Features a distinctive circular engine-turned (bouchonné) swirl pattern across the metal exterior, giving it a strong industrial look with an aged patina.
2. Box 2 (Deep Forest Green): Finished in a dark forest-green enamel with a subtle micro-textured glaze, remaining in clean, well-preserved condition.
Both boxes feature solid top folding drop handles and retain their original, vibrant bright-red lacquered interiors—a traditional European design detail used in safe-making to prevent rust and provide clear contrast for stored valuables.
Condition & Notes
Mechanisms: Both lock mechanisms operate smoothly. Box 1 comes with its original single key; Box 2 comes with its original key set on a ring.
Box 1 Condition: Good vintage condition with authentic age-appropriate wear, patina, and localized surface rust on the front bottom face, adding to its character.
Box 2 Condition: Very good vintage condition with minimal surface wear and clean paintwork.
Dimensions: 30 cm (W) x 22 cm (D) x 11 cm (H) each.
Combined Weight: 8,142 grams (8.14 kg total).
Shipping: Given the combined weight (~8.1 kg), the boxes will be packed with extra protective padding and shipped in a reinforced box with tracking and insurance.
