Special vase carved from coal. (Steenkohleschnitzerei) is a rare and unique piece from industrial artisanal craftsmanship, originating particularly from historic mining sites such as the German Ruhr area. Miners traditionally carved these vases by hand from large, solid blocks of high-quality anthracite or hard coal (about 300 million years old), after which the floral motifs were deeply incised. Production period: 1920 to 1960. The vase exhibits a distinctive silky to matte deep black sheen that is characteristic of polished carbon with incised floral relief—a very precise craftsmanship. In excellent condition. Dimensions: 27 cm high, 12 cm wide. This hard coal (anthracite) was formed during the Carboniferous period and is therefore about 300 million years old.
