Veduta di Venezia, 1980-1990 period, oil painting by Bernhard Matti (XX) from Italy, original edition, 44 × 38 cm, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Bernhard MATTI (XX)
Venetian view with gondola and the Salute, 1989
Technique and Support: Oil on cardboard.
Signature and Dating: Signed and dated "Matti 89" at lower left.
Dimensions:
Sight/Work: 28 x 22 cm
With frame: 44 x 38 cm
(The measurements are pencil-noted on the back of the frame).
Visual and Stylistic Description
Subject: The composition depicts a classic glimpse of Venice. In the foreground, a solitary gondolier, dressed in a pinkish shirt, steers his black gondola along the canal waters. On the sides, acting as a scenographic backdrop, are two Venetian palaces: the left one characterized by warm ochre-toned hues, while the right presents darker, earthier tones. Both feature the typical architectural details of arched windows highlighted with touches of white.
Background: In the distance, framed between the buildings, rises the unmistakable silhouette of the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute with its domes, painted with cool blues to convey atmospheric depth. The sky is dynamic, streaked with thick white clouds and birds in flight.
Style: The painting technique is markedly impastoed, with a dense texture and evident use of thick brushstrokes. This application endows the scene with strong three-dimensionality and liveliness, especially in the tremulous reflections on the water, rendered with clear horizontal strokes and coloristically contrasting tones.
The frame, if visible in the photo, is included in the lot as a pure gift from me and is not part of the sale, does not determine its value, and, given its delicacy, is not covered by insurance. Consequently, any defects already present on the frame are not noted and any damage to it during transport will not be considered for claims or refunds.
Shipping and Customs Notes
The item will be shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to European Union countries may be slightly longer than usual due to standard customs procedures.
I remind you also that, since Switzerland is outside the EU customs area, import duties, local VAT and customs fees are the sole responsibility of the purchaser and will be charged by the authorities of your country upon delivery. I recommend you check in advance to avoid surprises. Alternatively, if possible, personal pickup in Geneva is always the option I prefer and strongly recommend, as it eliminates shipping costs and ensures maximum safety for the artwork. If shipping is chosen, I will do my best to package the work to protect the painting during transit.
