Ferran (XX-XXI) - Tsunami

Original painting by the Uruguayan painter Ferran, realized in 2002 and entitled “Tsunami”, as reported by the original inscription on the back of the canvas.

This composition sits within contemporary material abstraction, with evident echoes of European Informalism and of lyrical abstraction developed in the second half of the 20th century. The artist builds the image through a skilful balance between chromatic surfaces, material reliefs and symbolic forms, creating an evocative landscape suspended between reality and imagination.

The palette is dominated by ochre, earth, copper and brown tones, which give the work a strong sense of warmth and depth. The wide undulating fields suggest geological or marine movements in constant change, while the rich painterly material, obtained through spatulas and thick impastos, lends a notable physical presence to the surface.

The central element of the composition is the sequence of concentric circular shapes, akin to fossils, shells or mineral sections, introducing a visual rhythm capable of guiding the eye through the work. In the lower part, the denser, jagged texture recalls a rocky mass or a sea bottom, reinforcing the reference to the title “Tsunami”, understood not as a descriptive representation of the natural event but as a metaphor of the primal force of nature and the transformation of matter.

On the back are preserved the author's original annotations with the title “Tsunami”, the date 2002, the technique (oil on canvas) and the dimensions 100 × 80 cm, elements that give the work further documentary interest.
