Description from the seller
RAMON AZUL (1957) - The Red Sleeping Woman - Mixed media on canvas
Mixed media techniques, Acrylic painting · Digital painting · Hand-signed · 2026
A woman with a body entirely red sleeps, her head resting on her folded arms, her cheek against the skin, a delicate gold necklace around her neck. Her black hair blends into the deep blue of the background, where a branch with wide green leaves veined with gold descends. The line of her back and shoulder draws a broad, peaceful, sculptural curve that occupies the entire canvas. The red of the skin is not alarming: it is the color of warmth, calm blood, deep sleep beneath the tropics. Three bold colors are enough, red, blue, and green, to compose an image of absolute fullness. The sleeper does not dream; she is the dream, a tangible and serene presence offered to contemplation.
Mixed technique: acrylic painting on a print with pigmented ink, matte varnish.
Varnish applied by hand, for the depth of colors and the durable protection of the work.
Support: premium stretched canvas on a wooden frame, ready to hang.
Format: to be specified.
Signed RAMON AZUL · Galerie Labo Joconde / Atelier Joconde · certificate of authenticity provided.
RAMON AZUL is one of the creations bringing together artists Le Yack, Neo Pablo and Popsan within Atelier Joconde, a family studio where three sensibilities coexist: neorealism, pop, and free figuration. Under the name RAMON AZUL, the Studio explores stylized nudity in the spirit of Mexican modernity: monochrome bodies in saturated flat colors, full and sculptural shapes, backgrounds of pure color, grave serenity of faces.
RAMON AZUL gathers nude figures with colored bodies, blue, red, ochre, curled or entwined, where the skin becomes a state of mind and the body a pure plastic sign. The through line: a dialogue between the heritage of the Mexican school and a contemporary pop perspective, where the painterly material enhances and transfigures the printed image.
Each work is a unique piece.
