Lee Miller was, in fact, his partner, and we owe her notably the co-discovery of the solarisation technique when she worked beside the Surrealist photographer.

Lee Miller, born April 23, 1907 – died July 21, 1977, is an American photographer and model.
In 1929, she left America for Paris and came to know Man Ray; she would become his muse, his lover, and his assistant.
In 1930, she set up her own photographic studio. Lee Miller notably took on fashion commissions that Man Ray could no longer fulfill.
With Man Ray, she rediscovered the photographic technique of solarisation.
Lee Miller participated in the Surrealist movement by producing images full of wit and humor. At that time, Lee Miller befriended Paul Éluard, Pablo Picasso and Jean Cocteau.
