Description from the seller
Title: Fruit Still Life
School: Catalan Abstract School
Author: Antonio Collado Martínez (1956 - Present)
Style: Expressive abstraction
Technique: Oil on panel
Circle and influences: Work linked to the tradition of Catalan expressive abstraction and European informalism of the second half of the 20th century, with particular attention to material, simplification of forms and chromatic strength. The composition also shows possible influences from Cubism and schematic figuration.
This is a composition of an abstract-expressive character in which a fruit still life is represented through simplified shapes with organic profiles. In the center of the work several large fruits are discernible, including a yellow, rounded-looking piece, accompanied by other vegetal forms and elements in ochre, brown, reddish and purplish tones. The background, dominated by earthy and pinkish tones, presents light lines and bands that provide rhythm and depth to the whole.
The work stands out for its materiatic treatment, the reduction of objects to essential volumes, and the balance between figuration and abstraction. The warm palette and frontal arrangement of the elements confer on the composition a sober and decorative presence.
Author's biography:
Antonio Collado Martínez was born in Balaguer, Lleida, in 1956. Since childhood he felt a deep attraction to painting and, in 1973, at only 17 years old, he held his first solo exhibition in the Balaguer Chamber of Commerce hall. Since then he has regularly exhibited in Spain and in various foreign countries, with his work present in important public and private collections.
Self-taught in his artistic formation, his career has progressively evolved from figurative to informalism, currently developing a personal inquiry within the realm of expressive abstraction. From 1988 he also began to work in sculpture, printmaking and lithography. He has received various national awards, among which the Durán Painting Second Prize stands out, obtained in 1998. He currently resides in Barcelona.
The work is presented framed in a golden-toned wooden frame with a sober finish, with a stepped molding and light signs of the passage of time.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Dimensions: 100 × 120 cm
Framed dimensions: 85 × 103 cm
