Description from the seller

Emmanuel-Joseph Sieyès - Essay on Privileges. No place or date (1788).

1 volume in-8 (22 x 14.5 cm). 48 pages. (Some minor stains without gravity).

Original, extremely rare edition, printed in November 1788, of the first work that would render Sieyès, then almost unknown, famous. A true "revolutionary Bible" of 48 pages, in which he sets forth the rights and the power of the Third Estate, he even dares to write the word revolution.

Printed a few months later at the start of 1789, his best-seller What Is the Third Estate?, his most famous work, sold in tens of thousands of copies, is the direct continuation of the Essay on Privileges.

Key work of the revolutionary period, this original edition is markedly rare: 1 copy in the BnF and 1 at the British Library.

Copy in every respect identical to the one digitized by the British Library.

Beautiful copy of this elusive original edition, fresh, softcover and uncropped as issued.
