Description from the seller
Mario Gramegna is an Italian artist whose painterly journey traverses several expressive phases, from the impressionism of his early works to a personal form of lyrical and Mediterranean abstraction. His research is based on broken equilibria, internal tensions and chromatic harmonies that fuse structure and instinct.
His works evoke inner landscapes, imagined suburbs, urban dreams and sea glimpses, transfiguring contemporary themes into free and symbolic forms. Color becomes a privileged emotional vehicle, with a prevalence of blues, greens and oranges that build vibrant and dynamic spaces.
Inspired by the great masters of the twentieth century such as Cézanne, Picasso, Afro and Van Velde, Gramegna develops a language of evocative abstraction in which natural and urban elements intertwine. He mainly uses acrylic, oil and oil pastels, alternating delicate transparencies with strong material contrasts.
In Periferia n° 2 the urban space is configured as an organism in transformation, traversed by chromatic and structural tensions that dissolve its descriptive dimension. The geometric masses articulate themselves in an unstable balance, generating a non-topographic but mental periphery, a place of emotional stratification and collective memory.
The composition lights up through a dominance of yellows and oranges that radiate energy and vitality, in dialogue with blues and deep blues that widen spatial perception. The linear mark, sometimes curvilinear and sometimes broken, acts as a connective weave, suggesting infrastructures, margins and invisible routes.
The work fits into Gramegna's poetics as an investigation of marginality understood not as a boundary, but as a space of possibility: a territory suspended between construction and dissolution, between lyrical impulse and architectural structure. Periferia n° 2. Oil and mixed media on canvas. Measures: 100 x 80
