In 2026 Bulgaria changed its currency accepting the euro. With this the old currency, the "bulgarian lev" (bulgarian lion) went extinct, exactly like a wild animal. To acknowledge this fact I created this series of origami real banknotes folded as butterflies.
The butterfly is a symbol of metamorphosis and transition, a process in which one form ceases to function as it once did without being entirely erased. It exists in a state of movement, where value is not fixed but continually reformulated. The butterfly marks the moment between stability and change. This liminal condition is neither an ending nor a beginning, but an ongoing state of transformation. The form remains recognizable, yet its meaning is fundamentally reconfigured.
The work uses the last bulgarian levs in circulation 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 nominals.
The price is for the whole bundle of five works.
