Desvres - Statue, Piëta - 20 cm - Ceramic

The region around Desvres has for centuries been internationally known for its faience (glazed earthenware) and ceramics production. Great French earthenware families and factories from this city, such as Fourmaintraux and Geo Martel, produced on a large scale in the late 19th and 20th centuries religious art, including reproductions of classical masterpieces such as Michelangelo's Pietà.
Material: Made of fine white or cream-colored earthenware (faience or biscuit de faience), often finished with a soft, glossy or matte glaze. At the bottom it reads Desvres together with the initials SJ.
Dating from the early part of the previous century.
