Statue, Sint Dymphna - 33 cm - Plaster

A beautiful plaster statue of Saint Dimpna.
Saint Dimpna is a very well-known saint from the 7th century. According to legend she fled Ireland to the Belgian Campine (Geel) to escape her insane father's incestuous marriage proposal. When he found her there and she refused again, he beheaded her. She is worldwide the patron saint of the mentally ill, psychiatric patients and people with emotional or mental problems. Largely thanks to her pilgrimage site, the city of Geel is still known today for its innovative family care for people with psychological vulnerability.
